Fed up of excess baggage fees at airports?
Whilst travelling around the world is amazing, the truth of the matter is that it isn’t the cheapest thing to do. You are going to need to pay for your flights, hotel and potentially excess baggage fees. A recent survey found 1 in 5 UK travellers paid excess luggage fees.
When you consider all this expense, the last thing that you to pay is an incredible amount of money for punitive excess luggage fees.
Of course, you can’t travel internationally without taking your luggage with you, so, if you are thinking about packing plenty of clothes and shoes and you want to do your best to avoid the fees, then here is how you can avoid them.
Wear extra layers to avoid excess baggage fees
Now, this one may seem somewhat a bit extreme, but you should never underestimate the power of wearing a few extra layers when you are heading off on your travels. If you find that your baggage is overweight and the fees are looking mouth-wateringly high, then take yourself off quickly and put a few of the clothes on to take with you on the plane. Sure, you might be a little warm as you travel through, but you can always strip off when you get on the plane and pop things away in your hand luggage (if there is room of course).
Pop heavy things in your pockets
Much like the above points, if you are worried about heavy things taking up your precious baggage allowance then why not see what you can get in your pockets before you fly? This can be a tricky one and of course you don’t want to have to feel that you are lugging around heavy items all day, but there are things that you can slot in your pockets such as books, cameras etc that would otherwise weigh down your luggage and stop you putting things in there.
Buy what you can there
If you can, then it is a good idea to try and buy what you can when you are at your destination. Of course, this isn’t always easy to plan as the country might not have your particular item. However, a good bet is that sun cream, toiletries and the basics will be available anywhere. This is not only a good tip to help minimise how much your luggage weighs but also if you need to think about liquid limitations on your flight too!
Send my bags ahead
If you are planning on travelling for a longer period of time, or you are relocating, then you might want to consider a luggage shipping company, like AiroLuggage, as a way to make sure that you can take as much as you like without worrying about excess baggage charges.
